Central United Methodist Church Music Ministry

At Central United Methodist Church, we have a strong and growing music program that focuses on God and offers something for everyone.

Adult Choir

Our adult choir is opened to all youth and adults who enjoy singing. The adult choir is a great time for learning music, praising God, and enjoying fellowship. The adult choir sings a large variety of music in many different styles. They sing classical, gospel, contemporary, and spirituals, etc. The adult choir also provides a service of special music during the Easter season and the Christmas season. The adult choir has also sung in numerous community events. The choir has gone Christmas Caroling for "Ye Olde Salem Christmas", and sung at nursing homes. Anyone is welcomed to join the adult choir. Our rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 7:00pm until 8:30pm in the choir room.

NEW DIRECTOR OF MUSIC MINISTRIES - RICHARD McCLURE (Ric)

A native of Oklahoma City, Ric served churches in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas as a Full-time vocational Minister of Music. He moved to Salem in 1987 to join Oak Hall Industries.

In 1991 Ric founded his own choir robe company, Shenandoah Robe Company. Our own choir robes were tailored by Shenandoah several years ago, long before Central and Ric came together.

Ric’s wife Debbie was Vice President and National Sales Manager at Shenandoah. They sold the company in 2006.

Ric has a B.A. in English and a Masters Degree in Music Education. From 1989 to 2001 Ric served Cave Spring UMC as Director of Music. Central can anticipate an emphasis on choral development and utilizing orchestral instruments in worship. As a professional Trumpet player, Ric has performed with Mill Mountain Theatre and currently will be assisting with brass instruction at Roanoke College. He also conducts the Valley Chamber Orchestra at Hollins University. Ric extends an invitation to visit Chancel Choir rehearsal on Wednesdays at 7PM to be part of our exciting music plans for the future.
